Heather Dale and Ben Deschamp performing in Cary Jan 17 [14 Jan 2011|12:07pm]

camelottreasure
Just in case you hadn't heard:

Folk artists Heather Dale and Ben Deschamps are stopping in NC to play a little House Concert at our place. If you aren't familiar with their music I urge you visit http://www.heatherdale.com/ I describe Heather's music as a blend of celtic myth and medieval history, with a unique progressive folk awesomness unto itself.

Suggested donation is $10/person at the door to help support the artists and offset some of their travel. We also invite you to bring drinks or snacks to share.

Please  RSVP on the Facebook event if you plan to come. We only have room for 30 or so people. More than that gets really cozy. Seating is limited. Be prepared to stand or sit on the floor.

About tonight's show, Rick says:
"A huge variety tonight, perhaps even an overly self-conscious effort to be all over the musical map -- albeit, with at least one toe dipped into the roots or soul water. There's bluesy jazz (or jazzy blues -- either tag is acceptable), Rumour-backed reggae, rockin' gospel, cheating soul with a twist, and some straight-up country."

The full play list is below and online at the web site. So tune in and listen to some great americana/blues/soul/twang/rock/whatever music.

Taproot Radio / Dirty Laundry Live Tonight 9-11pm EST [15 Mar 2010|08:50pm]

Howdy,

Calvin and Rick will be back on the air tonight from 9-11pm on WCOM. You can listen in at 103.5FM or via the webcast.

On the Taproot Radio show tonight I'll be featuring anew music from Joe Pug, the Carolina Chocolate Drops, and Ray Wylie Hubbard. I'm also playing one of my favorite country songs by Drive-by Trucker, Mike Cooley. I'm opening the show with some feel-good music from the subdudes.

On Dirty Laundry tonight, Rick is doing the reverse of last week's one new roots song + one old soul song + one old-fave roots song recipe. This week it's two soul songs (one recent and one from the '60s or '70s) sandwiching a rootsy song. Also, the roots songs are all connected, a thread he'll explain after the last full set.

The full play list is online at the web site. So tune in and listen to some great americana/blues/soul/twang/rock/whatever music.

Taproot House Concert: The Return of Hooverville [28 Feb 2010|10:48pm]

cspowers
Howdy,

Ever since I started Taproot Radio, I've dreamt of being able to host a house concert at my place in Chapel Hill. Today I'm excited to finally be able to announce that the first Taproot House Concert will be a benefit show for WCOM on Sunday April 25th at 7:00, featuring Americana legends, Hooverville!

Listeners of WUNC's Back Porch Music know that Hooverville is a staple of that show, and for good reason. Hooverville's take on 30's-era depression music based on brother-act harmonies is just the launching point for a deep, wandering journey through the landscape of American music. When Hooverville takes the stage you never know if your going to be hearing murder ballads, strange waltzes, swampy blues, or country rockers about sedans. No matter where they go musically, they never wander far from that easy-going, relaxed back porch feel. If your into The Band, The Flatanders, or Uncle Tupelo, your sure to find your next favorite band in Hooverville.

This first Taproot House Concert is a benefit show for WCOM, the community radio station for Chapel Hill and Carrboro and the broadcast home of Taproot Radio. I am proud to live in a community that values the do-it-yourself spirit of media production, where friends and neighbors produce entertainment for each other, where citizens have the nerve to speak up in public media and share their views of the world, where the First Amendment is not just an idea, but a way of life. Nothing embodies this spirit better than WCOM. Leo Reynolds will be on hand to tell you more about our grand experiment in community radio and to answer your questions about the station.

Typically in house concerts, all door proceeds go to the artist. But Hooverville has graciously agreed to split the door proceeds with WCOM. So you'll not only be supporting some fantastic independent artists, you'll be supporting your community radio station. Like all house concerts, space is very limited! To reserve your seats at the Hooverville show on April 25th, visit http://house.taprootradio.com. Tickets are $10 per person and must be paid in advance at the web site.

Signed with the Crunch Pod music label and voted the #1 Industrial Club DJ on The DJ List (world's largest DJ directory), END: the DJ is known for his hard hitting club DJ sets in the hard EBM, Rhythmic Noise, Hardstyle, Aggrotech & Industrial Dance genres. Breaking down boundaries in the Electronic music fields on dance floors while promoting the best independent artists is what motivates End to tour each year since 2006. His new album Endtrovert drops on Feb. 26!

KRI (Touch Samadhi)
As he comes across quiet and somewhat reserved in person, one would not, at first, realize that Kri is on a mission, a serious quest to bring Psychedelic Trance music to the people, and to bring the people to a state of enlightenment in the process. Caught up in the party scene of the 90's and gaining a reputation for his skills in mixing breakbeat and scratching, Kri left it all behind to pursue full-time the haunting promise Goa trance laid out for him. Now, he has single handedly created a devout following in places all over the country.

PSYONIC (Touch Samadhi)
The year was 92' when Psyonic's ears were 1st touched with the sounds of electronic music. Coming from a primarily punk and death metal background over the yrs Psyonic’s adventures in the "rave" world began to grow stale and lifeless. Till late summer of 2000 when he received a mysteries email from a unknown sender inviting him to a "party" in the mountains of Asheville, N.C. With nothing better to do he packed his gear and headed to the mountains. Psyonic having no idea or knowledge of the psytrance culture and community was taken by surprise once he hit the dance floor. and like us all, he felt as though he had finally found his place and purpose. Now 6 almost 7 yrs later as the music has grown and progressed into a darker more harsh style.
